The adoption of a new WHO treaty is currently being negotiated.
The treaty that the WHO (World Health Organization) is trying to get adopted gives the WHO additional powers.
We already saw during the Covid crisis how much influence the WHO had over member countries. There was no lack of coordination of the efforts we witnessed. Instead, we witnessed a completely exaggerated coordination of a completely exaggerated effort. The Covid crisis has taught us every possible reason to work for a limitation of the WHO's powers rather than an expansion of them.
In this context, it is important to be aware that the WHO is not a democratic organization in which ordinary people have the right to vote and that it is an institution that is largely financed by private investors with their own interests.
The WHO is not at all the objective, co-ordinating, quality-assuring body that we are used to thinking it is.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is not at all the neutral, well-balanced, international and competent leader that we are used to thinking he is. He has no health professional background. He has been a scandal-ridden minister of health in Ethiopia from 2005 to 2012, he has been accused of being behind genocide in Ethiopia. He has also been criticized for his very strong ties to private financial interests.
